The Mets and the White Sox have just agreed on the following trade-
The Mets trade-
Mets draft picks - Round 5 & 6 and $30M in salary cap for 2012 only
The White Sox trade-
Alexei Ramirez
Thank you White Sox for the negotiations

I dont need to justify the deal, but I will for those who just dont understand it.
Firstly forget the $30M. The Mets will be unlikely to spend more than $100M of the $150M salary cap provided. So this part of the deal is irrelevant in the arguement that the Mets gave up too much.
Secondly, positional players are getting very scarce. The next best SS would only provide half the production that Ramirez will (and that is only if he is still around when I get to pick next) - 14 picks away from the 5th round pick I traded in this deal. So rather than try and get an SS that provides half the output as my round 5 pick (if he is still there in 14 picks time), I have decided to get the production I need in that position, at the cost of a starter pitcher (of which there are more available, and a few good hidden types that I have my eye on).
This is the rational behind the Mets giving picks 5 & 6 and cash for Ramirez. I am convinced that this trade strengthens my team in 2012 and beyond.
